Dental sedation is a form of sedative provided to dental patients by a skilled, trained dental team. Sedation is used for a myriad of reasons, but mainly is used to help people who have anxiety and fear over treatment. Because patients are conscious, the sedation used at our dental office provides a higher level of safety.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Mid-Wilshire Dental Care in Los Angeles offers two types of sedation options; nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Nitrous oxide is what is commonly known as \u201claughing gas\u201d. It is delivered through a mouth cover from a tank, through a hose. Oral sedation is a medication administered orally. The pill is taken about an hour before your visit, so that when you arrive at the dentist, you will be calm and anxiety-free. Dental sedation doesn\u2019t put you fully asleep, but it will make you feel groggy and in a calm state. Some people DO fall asleep, but they are still conscious. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>


Many different people may benefit from sedation, including people with dental fears, people who have had bad experiences with the dentist, individuals who have low pain tolerance, people with extensive gag reflexes, and people who may need long or extensive treatments. After your visit, you will still be groggy so we recommend having a friend or loved one drive you home. If you think that you or your family member would benefit from dental sedation, we would love to bring you in for a consultation.
